Town Hall Meeting - February 7th at Hornet Park Community Center
Join the Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14th at the Hornet Park Community Center and enjoy a unique musical performance by bell master, Dean Jones. Dean will play a set of 27 cowbells, set up like a piano keyboard. This is a special opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the holiday in a way you'll be sure to remember. Lunch will be provided by Newk's Eatery. Dean Jones Dean Jones grew up in the Peoria, Illinois area, but lived in California briefly, where one of his classmates was Dusty Rogers, son of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a strong emphasis in music, and a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Butler University. After an extensive search, the GBGCOC Board of Directors extended an offer to a wonderful candidate for the Executive Director position. To our delight, Ron Mayes, EdD, of Southport, accepted the position and has begun the transition into the role. Dr. Mayes, a retired educator, spent his early professional career as a technical editor, teacher, principal, and at age of 26, became one of the youngest school administrators in the State of Indiana. He later served as Superintendent of Education in the communities of Edinburgh and Kokomo. In Florida, Dr. Mayes helped establish two charter schools, he began a chamber of commerce in Edinburgh, IN and he and his wife established the Taylor Township Imagination Library in Kokomo which provided a free book every month to every registered Taylor Township pre-school aged child. For the past few years, the Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce hosted an event called Music on Main. Last year it highlighted Bucky Covington, and was well attended, showcasing Beech Grove's Main Street and our Beech Grove community partnerships. After much consideration, the Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce board of directors decided to cancel the 2017 Music on Main event. With the departure of our Executive Director, we've lost a lot of the resources that went into making this event fun and exciting. Our former Executive Director spent a lot of her time making connections, selling sponsorships and coordinating the people and resources that went into making Music on Main successful. Governor Eric Holcomb and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announce the City of Beech Grove as the newest member of the Indiana Main Street (IMS) Program.
